CROCKET

A decorative carving in the form of a leaf, projecting at intervals along the edge of a spire or pinnacle. 2016 interior design ideas Crockets were especially fashionable in the ornate late phase of Gothic architecture.

CROSSING

The space formed by the junction of the nave, choir, and transepts in a church. A crossing is often crowned by a tower, spire, or dome.

The great tower, also called the keep, at the heart of a medieval castle. The donjon was designed with enough accommodation to provide a secure refuge for the household and retainers during times of war.

DORIC

One of the orders of classical architecture, typified by very plain capitals and the lack of a base to the column.

DRUM

A vertical wall, usually round or polygonal in plan, supporting a dome.
