This marvelous Queen Anne structure marks the entrance to the Roman Catholic Calvary Cemetery, part of the view from the Long Island Expressway. In terms of interments (more than 3 million), this is America’s largest burial ground. It was originally the last resting-place of children and poor immigrants from the slums of the Lower East Side. Today, burials are restricted to family plots and reused graves.
