Look to those recently planted summer-fruiting raspberry canes and cut them down to about nine inches, encouraging them to concentrate on building up strong plants for future cropping. Take out the tips of established canes to help them sprout to the full. Turn next, then, to enjoy the first Hazel’ catkins. Note the Cork-screw Hazel’, European home design Corylus avellana Con-torta'; not by any means the most elegant of shrubs, but always a curiously interesting focus of conversation and laden with pendent catkins at this time of the year.
