Recipe for Dinner
2 slices wholemeal bread Milk
1 small onion
2.5 ml/1/2 tsp grated nutmeg
Salt and freshly ground black pepper
Break up the bread and place in a small ovenproof dish. Pour on enough milk to cover and leave to soak for 5 minutes. Stud the onion with the cloves and push into the middle of the bread. Season the bread with the nutmeg and a little salt and pepper. Top up with a little more milk, then cover with foil and bake in a preheated oven (with a nut roast or something similar) at 190Â°C/375Â°F/gas mark 5 for about 1 hour. Remove the onion, then beat the sauce with a fork until fairly smooth. Thin with a little more milk, if liked. Turn into a clean serving bowl if necessary and serve.
