To encourage maximum flower
power, go over your plants from time to time, removing fading or dead flowers. A pair of nail scissors or small secateurs will make this quick and easy.
When spring approaches and seeds begin to set, remove all developing capsules. Where plants have become leggy, trim the longest stems back to half
their length to encourage extra side shoots. With good care, each viola or pansy plant can provide excellent colour from October right through to early summer.
Is it safe to move a young grapevine now? And should I prune it after replanting?
G Fitzpatrick, by email Grapevines are fully hardy and can be transplanted any time while in winter dormancy. By all means prunejust before or after pruning, but get your pruning completed before the sap begins to rise.
