International Business Machines, the electronic equipment manufacturer headquartered in New York since 1924, moved to a building on this site in 1938. Although it later moved its headquarters to Armonk, in Westchester County, its New York City operations kept growing, making this larger building necessary. It includes an indoor park on the 57th Street side, connecting it with Nike Town and Trump Tower to its west.
