The Grand Concourse is four-and-a-half miles long between 138th Street and Mosholu Parkway. Eleven lanes wide, with two tree-lined dividers and wide sidewalks, it was the grandest boulevard in the Bronx when it was built in 1909, and it became the government center as well as a major shopping and entertainment district. It quickly became the favorite destination of new arrivals who could afford to live here, and this thirteen-story apartment house became their most favored address.
