NAME TO WATCH MARC WOOD STUDIO

Coming from a dynasty of crystal glass producers in the Czech Republic, London-based lighting designer Marc Wood combines traditional craftsmanship with cutting-edge technology. The ‘Pleated Crystal’ collection (from £750, below), his first consumer project, pairs artisanal glasswork with precision engineering, refracting light to create a dancing glow (marcwoodstudio.com).

THE LIGHT WITHIN

The iconic storage units by Swiss brand USMnow come with integrated, wireless illumination. The ‘HallerE’ discreetly houses lighting elements within the metal rods that comprise the furniture’s frame, adding a warm daylight glow or bright white ambience to shelves, display cases and the insides of drawers. The lighting system can also befitted to existing USM pieces. From £1,019 (usm.com).

Add some design interest to the humble light switch with Forbes & Lomax’s luxury fittings. The ‘Verdigris’ range has an aged bronze patina that will make turning on a light a simple, everyday pleasure. From £68 (forbesandlomax.com)

Omer Arbel, creative director at Bocci I find myself fascinated by our lighting designs . when they’re switched off, sometimes more so than when they’re turned on. It’s interest to think of them as beautiful sculptural elements that emit light in a kind of incidental way.
