One of our two Idea Houses showcased in this issue, the homeand its heavenly settingrepresents everything we love about the shore: spectacular views of emerald waters, wispy sea oats dancing in the dunes, an unhurried, simpler way of life. While working on the project, we nicknamed it the reunion home because we could easily imagine it brimming with an extended family of beach lovers. We envisioned giggling children racing down the path to the ocean; teens matching wits in the game room; the family patriarch catnapping in the guest cottage; and all manner of grown-ups scattered about the deck, reliving vacations of years past. While this home embodies a spirit of the more, the merrier, the other Idea House is better suited for intimate gatherings. Settled beside the marshland, its inverted floor plan places the main living areas on the second level, giving occupants a treetop view. The kitchen, dining area, and sitting area flow easily from one to the other, encouraging conversations with the cook. Just outside among arching oak trees, a screened dining porch offers additional entertaining options.
