Modern Home Designs From South Africa
Lighting is another way to bring warmth into a minimal room. Use low lighting in the form of table lamps rather than recessed lighting, and use rheostats for lighting control.
In my opinion there is no other color for a bedroom. It’s restful and calming and appeals to the senses. This year I bought a linen duvet of grayish beige and white checks. I added lighter-checked accent pillows and this is what I will use for fall and winter. In the summer it’s all white. Moving toward the different textures and
shades will make the room warmer after the stark cool look of summer. Using white as a base allows me to have this comfortable versatility.
The Collector’s Dilemma
It’s hard to keep things uncrowded and uncluttered when you love collecting. A decorator I know lives in a tiny cottage filled to brimming with the things she loves, yet it seems spacious because it is devoid of color. The living room, kitchen, dining room, and bedrooms share the same decorating elements. Creamware pottery lines kitchen shelves, and every table top is filled with interesting collections, but everything is in shades of white, gray, beige, and cream, with a few silver objects. She uses baskets, straw, vintage linens, rich old wood, crocheted pieces, lots of posts, fresh greens, and candles. Again, white walls create the perfect backdrop for all this wonderful variety.
