ST. GEORGE’S UKRAINIAN CATHOLIC CHURCH NEW YORK

This is a glistening reminder of the Old Country for the more than 1,600 Ukranians who live in this part of the East Village. The church was established by Byzantine Rite Catholics at a former Baptist church on East 20th Street. When its first bishop, Soter Ortynsky, came here in 1907, his first mass in America was said there. The parish moved into this neighborhood in 1911.
