ST. PETER’S CHURCH NEW YORK

The oldest Catholic parish in the city, this building stands on the site of its predecessor, built on land purchased from the Episcopalian Trinity Parish in 1785. There were only about two hundred Catholics in New York at the end of the Revoloutionary War, but in less than a century, it became the city’s largest religious denomination and it still is.
