Remove Paint from Rebate
Another part that should be carefully examined is that portion of the door frame known as the rebate, against which the door fits when closed.
If accumulations of old paint cause the door and rebate to fit tightly at this point, it is possible that the addition of more paint might so increase its thickness that the new paint would be torn off later. This is a most unsightly defect, which often occurs through neglect in removing the old paint at this point. If there is any doubt regarding this, it is best to strip the rebate.
All parts from which old paint has been removed will require an extra priming coat of paint, and this, together with the treatment of all knots thus made visible is described in Chapter Seven.
